Another Post – Another System!

Hello again,

Since my last post, the Hobby Butterfly has paid me a visit, and I find myself obsessed with a new system!

For the last few years, I have strayed away from Games Workshop products, but with the release of a new version of Blood Bowl, I was tempted into rejoining the fold.

With the start of the Blitzmania season, I got myself a Human Team, threw myself into the Beautiful (and Violent) Game, and thought I would also put down my thoughts into the blog, and let the world know how my team are getting on in the world of Blood Bowl!

Coach Siegmund Goldhaber (me!) founded the Ramsau Raiders  for the Blitzmania league, and with hope in their hearts and songs in their voices, the rookies kicked off their campaign.

First Match was against the Skaven team, Gutterspike Turbos. The match was a brutal awakening to the world of Blood Bowl, as the Skaven ran rings around the much slower humans, scoring at will as well as crippling the players. Catcher Theobald Hochberg provided the one highlight for the Raiders, scoring a touchdown to bring the final score to a 4-1 defeat. In return, Lineman Richard Loosi got sent off for fouling, while fellow Lineman Kuno Naumann suffered a Smashed Ankle, which will forever haunt him (and his movement ability)

Second Match saw the Ramsau Raiders drawn against fellow Human side Twintail Comets. This time the Raiders fared much better, with Theobald Hochberg once again scoring, along with Blitzers Arnold Haarman and Wilburg Honigsberg for a 3-0 final score. It wasn’t all roses though, as Theobald was later sent off for fouling.

The Dwarfs of the Western Hammerers were the game 3 opponents, and once again the Ramsau Raiders proved too strong for their opponents, with Wilburg Honigsberg scoring his second in as many matches, and his older brother, Conrad (Catcher) scoring the second for a 2-0 scoreline. Theobald Hochberg made up for failing to score by taking his frustrations out on a Troll Slayer, giving him a Broken Jaw.

The fourth (and final in this current post) game brought the Ramsau Raiders against their most violent opponents yet, the Dark Elves of Cormarragh United FC. The game was a massacre, as the Dark Elves brought their skilled Assassins to the fray. 3 players were taken out of action, including Richard Loosi suffering a Broken Jaw. However the worst was still to come, as Linesman Ralf Grohl, who had previously joined the team as a Journeyman before being hired to the main team, found himself on the receiving end of an Assassins blade, and despite the best efforts of the team Apothecary, was declared dead on the field. With 3 players out of action, and a few more stunned and KO’d, the Elves were able to control the field for a final score of 3-0

So four games down, and the Ramsau Raiders have 2 wins and 2 losses under their belts. I’m very happy with this, as it’s better than I would have expected, and I am loving the game of Blood Bowl.

It’s interesting that my two losses came at the hands of faster teams, while my two victories were against a slower and an equal team. This shows me that I need to work more on my positional play, as leaving one gap open can allow these teams to exploit and score before you can react.

Keep following to find out where the road to Blitzmania leads next for the Ramsau Raiders

  1. Thanks for the post, good to see how other teams are fairing in Blitzmania. My experience saw the Orcs of the Grimnak Gaming Ravens up against equally tough and punchy teams (orcs, dwarves) where my game plan of dominating via on field numbers was neutralised, hence my loss and two draws.

Good luck for the rest of the season, hope the Ramsau Raiders continue to perform.

    1. Best of luck yourself.
A recent friendly against a fellow human team (if you can call it that when I injured 5 players including one dead!) meant that the Ramsau Raiders have been able to hire a new player, and are on the lookout for a willing Ogre to be their frontman.

      1. Excellent news, although as you say the idea of a friendly with five casualties is slightly extreme!
